Australian Seascapes

These images are from last winter (summer in the Northern hemisphere, it was July). I was in Brisbane for a week where I was organizing a workshop at the University of Queensland. After this I spent close to a week in Melbourne, where I visited an old grad student at the University of Melbourne and gave a talk at the big national lab CSIRO. I also spent a small amount of time visiting some nice spots. One afternoon, Scott from CSIRO drove me, Anthony, Nicole and Sean to Phillip Island where we hiked a little along the coast, visited a Koala sanctuary and went to see the penguins come in from the sea at night (photography strictly forbidden). It was overcast and rainy most of the time so the photography was not spectacular, but still I got some nice images I think. Below are a few examples. Clicking on the images as always brings you to much larger copies in the lightbox.

  2. Thanks mate. The seminar was on exciton/plasmon hybrid states and their use in photon management in organic photovoltaics. I had a good time in Australia but wish I had had some more free time as I spent almost all my time there working.

  4. Will do. In the mean time, you might be interested in a private gallery of Australia images I took with lots of images from the Brisbane area. Send me an email at jvandela at the obvious domain and I'll send you the URL. I put that up last summer/winter as a core dump and am only now getting around to posting some images publicly.
