Lava Lake
Amazing pictures from (again) photographer Olivier Grunwald. This time from the rim of the largest lava lake in the world. Absolutely incredible.

Kawah Ijen at night
I have written about the amazing practice of mining sulfur from volcanoes that happens in Indonesia before. I just came across an amazing series of images posted by The Big Picture that was taken by photographer Olivier Grunewald of one of these operations at night using moonlight. It shows blue flames from burning sulfer and other very strong outerworldly colors. Truly a unique perspective. Check out the gallery here.

Amazing images from the Iceland volcano
As by now everybody knows there is a volcano erupting on iceland (Eyjafjallajokull) that has brought down most air traffic in Europe. As annoying as that can be to travellers (and I have several friends stuck because of it) it does give rise to beautiful images. Later there will be some really nice sunsets and sunrises too because of the volcanic ash in the higher atmosphere. There is a really nice gallery on the big picture here. They show and link to extraordinary images from Belgian photographer Olivier Vandeginste. Well worth a look.
